The Secret's Out

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

Yes, you read that right. There are three of us in the picture. We are super excited to announce that we have a little one on the way, scheduled to make his or her debut on or around January 9th, 2013. So you don't have to do any more math today...that puts us at exactly 12 weeks today and the baby at about the size of a large plum.

Everything is going great so far. No sickness at all...which I am thankful for every day. We definitely covet your thoughts and prayers over the next 6 months. We are beyond excited about parenthood and the next chapter in our lives.

Cayman Islands Part 2

Outside of relaxing on the beach we did a couple of fun excursions. You cannot go to the Cayman Islands without paying a visit to Sting Ray City. Not a city at all, it is actually a sand bar where bunches of string rays come to be fed and interact with the daily stream of visitors.

We took a smaller tour which was nice. There were only about 15 people on our boat along with a couple of guides and the owner of the boat (who actually lives on the boat too).

It takes a little bit of time to get used to having string rays swimming by and brushing up against you.

The tour guides gave everyone pieces of squid to feed to the rays.

Then they taught us how to get the rays to sit in our arms. I had to have some help catching one. Andrew on the other hand was a natural.

After visiting with the sting rays for about an hour, we went to a near by reef to snorkel. There was an eel that the tour guides baited out form under a rock with some left over squid scraps.

Totally unrelated, but this is one of my favorite pictures from the trip taken before dinner one night at our resort.

Cayman Islands Part 1

We recently got back from five nights in the Caribbean. It was wonderful. We decided several months ago that we wanted to take a little trip away - somewhere warm, with ocean and sand, to relax before the summer got started. Summer is a really busy season for me at work - so it is actually not be best time for taking vacation.

I have some wonderful memories of traveling to the Cayman Islands as a child. Then about 6 years ago, Andrew and I traveled there for vacation with my grandmother. It really is paradise. We actually stayed at the same resort we stayed at 6 years ago, on the East End of the island, about 45 minutes outside of Georgetown. It is great because the East End is unpopulated and un-touristy, but we could hop in the car and go into Georgetown if we wanted to for shopping, eating and doing some of the touristy stuff.

Andrew got to drive on the "wrong side of the road." He did a great job with it...the only hard part was parking lots where there are no lanes.

Our beautiful accommodations: The Reef Resort

The view from our room

The first night we went back to one of our favorite restaurants from 6 years ago called "Over the Edge." It is not a really nice place...more like a local dive. But the food is really good and it is one of the few places to eat near our resort on the east side of the island.

And they serve fried bread with your meal. Despite the is amazing.

I will share more pictures from our week in the caymans over the next couple days. But this is how we spent many of our days...just sitting by the ocean.
