This past weekend our sweet friend Kristen came to visit from Atlanta to meet and love on little Perry. They clearly bonded and I think they will be good friends.

Hospital Newborn Pictures

on
Tuesday, January 29, 2013
Hospital baby pictures have come a long way! He was only a few hours old when these were taken. Mom was still in bed hooked up to a magnesium drip so she didn't make it into the pictures, but Dad got to get in one or two. : ) We loved how Perry's first set of newborn pictures turned out and they made great pictures for the sweet boy's birth announcements.

We had another (more formal) set of newborn photos taken at home when Perry was 1 week old. You can see the sneak peek of those pictures here: http://www.simplicitybychristy.com/blog/sweet-little-newborn-huntsville-newborn-photographer/. We can't wait to see the rest of them and get some ordered to start filling our walls. : )

First sunday back at church

on
Monday, January 28, 2013
We finally made it back to church this past weekend. We had hoped to make it last sunday...but had to postpone due to the aforementioned stomach bug.

Here we are all dressed in our sunday best!

It went ok...we made it through worship and about 7 minutes of the sermon before Perry got fussy and we had to make a quick exit. Poor thing decided to be hungry after 2 hours instead of his usual 2.5-3. Luckily Ann and Gary were working the newborn nursery so I went and visited with them while I gave Perry his lunch. After church Andrew had to head to work. Perry, Kristen (who had come to visit this weekend) and I went to lunch with some friends. Maybe someday we can make it through a whole service...until then we will be thankful for live streaming so we can watch it again afterwards.

It's the little things

Months ago some girlfriends at church threw myself and several other pregnant friends a "pamper mommy" party. It was such fun...we ate yummy food, did some crafts and exchanged pampering gifts.

During the party we also had some fun with sharpies and diapers....writing inspirational or funny things on them. I had almost forgotten all about it until I was pulling some diapers out the other night and found the stack that were decorated. It made me smile. : ) Some of them say "good job dad" and "its the middle of the day somewhere" or "call (insert phone number) if you need help."

This morning when I changed Perry he got to wear this on his bottom:

We will not talk about what this diaper looked like when I took it off him a couple hours later... regardless Jesus still loves him.

Sometimes it is really little things that make your day. : )

2 week check-up

on
Wednesday, January 23, 2013
Yesterday we went back to Dr. Ellis for P's two week check up. Ok he was 2 days shy of 3 weeks but his mommy came down with a terrible stomach bug last friday when his original appointment was scheduled. We figured a pediatrician office would not appreciate a parent bringing the stomach bug to them. : )

P is doing awesome. He is now 8 lb 10 oz...well above his birthweight of 7 lb 13 oz. He has gained 1.25 inches (now 20.75 inches). We are so thankful and so blessed.

We absolutely love Dr. Ellis and Huntsville Pediatric Associates. They make us feel so cared for and like they have all the time in the world to talk to us and answer our questions (even though we know good and well there are a million other people demanding their time). We are not due to see them again for another 5 weeks or so for Perry's 2 month appointment. Hopefully he will keep doing great and we will not be calling them sooner.

Home Sweet Home

on
Tuesday, January 15, 2013
This is a little out of order, but here are some pictures from Perry's homecoming. Despite my blood pressure woes and having to stay on a magnesium drip 24 hours after delivery we still got to leave the hospital at the typical time. Perry did awesome after delivery...no problems and bilirubin levels that were off the charts low...so proud of him.

Getting all dressed up

Dressed and ready to go home

All snuggled up in my carseat

That moment when you think "are they really going to let us leave with this baby?!?"

perry's first bath

on
Friday, January 11, 2013
Tuesday, Andrew and I geared up to give Perry his very first bath. Since he was only a few days old and his cord had not come off yet it had to be a sponge bath. It went surprisingly well and Perry seemed to rather enjoy the whole experience...and was very patient with his parents who were learning on the job how to best bathe him.

We might be a little partial, but we have one cute baby. Here he his modeling on his bath turtle sponge.

Happy to be all squeaky clean! : )

Perry James East

on
Thursday, January 10, 2013
Today, our sweet boy Perry is one week old. It is hard to believe how quickly the week has gone by and how much life can change seemingly overnight.

We have had a fun week getting used to our new routine (that changes everyday) and Perry had his first pediatrician visit, first bath, and newborn photo shoot.

We are so incredibly grateful for all of our family and friends that have provided so much love and support to us as we make this transition into parenthood. Our little boy is so loved.

It will take forever probably to post about all the things that have happened this week. For today, just a few picture highlights from one week ago and our labor and delivery experience.

We were so blessed to have our sweet friend Elizabeth come in and be our l&d nurse. It was so awesome to have a friend by your side for that adventure. We were so well cared for, especially when my blood pressure was going a little crazy early on. We also had another sweet friend Lyndsay come and take pictures. The whole day is pretty much a blur to us...it is awesome to be able to look back at the 459 (no that is not a typo) pictures she took and remember everything that happened. Precious memories.

Wednesday night we got settled in to our room and said a prayer over the next day

Here we are nearing the end of labor after Lyndsay got the call from Elizabeth that it was almost push time.

We had pandora on playing music and keeping us entertained...it was really neat that while we were waiting on the doctor to get there right before delivery this song decided to come on...Chris Tomlin's "Welcome To Our World."

Our first glimpse of our beautiful red headed baby

We are so thrilled to introduce our son, Perry James East, born on 1/3/13 at 2:34 pm
7 lb 13 oz, 19.5 inches long

We are now a family of three!

Lifegroup Tacky Christmas

on
Wednesday, January 2, 2013
Here are a couple pictures from our annual church lifegroup tacky Christmas party. It is such fun to have an excuse to look this ridiculous! : )
In addition to sporting the worst Christmas clothes we can find, we eat yummy appetizers, bring cookies to swap and have a dirty santa ornament exchange.

This year we also decided to do some awkward family photo shoots...not hard when you are already dressed so awkwardly.

Christmas: East family

Tuesday, January 1, 2013
Tuesday evening...

...after the Moreland gathering we loaded up everything and went on to Andrew's parents' house for the afternoon and evening (and next morning).

Perry already had his very own stocking hung on the "grandkids" side of the fireplace next to ben and kate's. It was full of toys and other necessities as well as the cute bib you can see sticking out of the top.

Lots of presents...way too many to open in one sitting...so we opened a few before dinner and then the rest afterwards.

Kids are so fun to watch and be around at Christmastime. It was awesome to watch Ben and Kate open each of their presents and get so excited. Kate got lots of princess things like this princess "laptop computer".

Ben got legos...lots of legos.

Ann and Gary (aka Granna and Granddaddy) got Perry these awesome riding toys.

Andrew's (least) favorite gift was this jar of mint jelly...that was actually the same jar we wrapped up for Matt last year. Still has not expired...does mint jelly ever really expire!?!
Beware Matt...I don't think this is over.

We opened presents until late in the evening and then all spent the night, except Matt who had to get up super early and work the next day. The next day we slept in, had breakfast, and visited until after lunch.  Then it was home to find a place for all the awesome gifts we got. It was such a fun Christmas!

Now we are working on getting all the Christmas paraphernalia taken down around the house and boxed away until next November. There is something refreshing about getting it all put away and the house "de-cluttered" for the new year and for Perry's arrival.
