When in Florida

Early December took me and a couple colleagues to Orlando for a few days. The serious game all about complex genetics we have been developing and disseminating over the past 4 years at work was named a finalist in a Serious Game Showcase and Challenge at the I/ITSEC (Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference). Yeah that is a mouth full.

It was a spectacular week getting to show off our game on the exhibit floor. We had lots of amazing conversations with teachers, students and industry leaders. Even though we didn't win the challenge the exposure we got from being a finalist was worth even more.

Our days were spent standing next to our booth and talking about and showing Touching Triton off to everyone who walked by (which was a lot at a conference attended by 15,000 people).

We were so close to Disney World that we took one of our off nights and ventured to Disney Springs for dinner at Ragland Road. Another night we went to Fort Wilderness to the Hoop-Dee-Do review. Since its kind of hard to get to and not in a park none of us had ever been there during one of our real Disney vacations, so it was perfect for a conference night when you don't have a park ticket option. It was really fun, and funny.

Another fun part of the conference was the organized 5k one morning. Running in Florida is only survivable in the winter. It was nice to get some exercise in and watch the sun rise above the palm trees.

The trip ended with a couple fun days spent actually in Disney World at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party and a few hours in Animal Kingdom and the Studios. Disney at Christmas is just extra magical. And it was nice too see those Osborne lights one more time before they turned off for good. And getting to meet the Christmas Dwarfs and Chewie was pretty awesome too!
