Here's to a New Year

Well it is an hour past midnight here in central time zone which means it is officially 2017. I sit here saying a welcome hello to a new year and one that promises to bring some exciting times of growth and change for our little family. I am quite happy to call it a wrap on 2016 -  a year that brought lots of highs and lows and everything in between. In many ways it was a very challenging year, filled with busyness and overcommittedness (I know that is not a real world but it is my real life) and other things, that really tested our relationships with each other and with God.

Things like this little blog have taken a back seat the past few months as I have tried to give grace to my to-do list in a difficult season and spend more time being present in moments rather than documenting them.

As 2017 begins I want to get back into the blogging habit...because I truly treasure the permanent documentation of our family's life. But I fully give myself the grace to be bad at it too if the day/week/month calls for it.

What I want in 2017 more than anything is to continue working on creating margin in life. Making more space for the things that matter most...relationships with my God, family, and friends and leading Perry towards his own relationship with God and understanding of Jesus.

There are some exciting times coming this year. We will transition to a family of four with the addition of a baby girl, expected to arrive in May. Perry will start pre-K this fall and is looking more and more like a big kid every day. Before any of that we are planning to jet set to Hawaii here in a couple weeks as a sort of babymoon/final trip as a family of three. You can already start sending prayers our way about a 10+ hours of flying with a four year old...yikes.

I am sure this year has some curveballs in store for us as well that we don't see coming. But no matter what we know we have God and each other and that is all that matters.

We rang in the New Year tonight quietly and simply at home with good friends...like we do most every year. And I wouldn't want it any other way. Except maybe something more than grape juice in my glass next year. ;)

Happy 2017 everyone!
